Advanced Polymer And Composite Materials Laboratory

+ Functions: Conducting fundamental research and developing applications of advanced polymer composite materials.

+ Tasks: Research and improvement of technological processes for producing advanced polymer composite materials. Applying materials in various industrial, civil, security, and defense fields.

+ Main Research Directions:

  • Development of polymer coatings with special properties such as heat resistance, fire resistance, thermal insulation, chemical and corrosion resistance, UV protection, antibacterial, etc.
  • Development of polymer composites and technical rubber blends for applications in structural materials, wear-resistant materials, thermally conductive materials, and environmentally durable materials.
  • Research on processing and modification of different reinforcing agents, including nanoparticles and mineral-based materials, oriented for application in polymer composites.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Successfully developed fire-resistant coating systems for steel structures that meet BS EN 13381-8:2013 and ISO 834-10 standards, in compliance with Vietnam’s National Technical Regulation QC06/2020. Fire resistance limits: 15–120 minutes.
  • Developed and applied intumescent polymer materials to block smoke and prevent fire spread in high-rise buildings.
  • Developed anti-corrosion coating systems for steel structures in humid and highly corrosive environments.
  • Surface treatment technologies and application of micron- and nano-sized reinforcing agents, especially mineral-based materials, for polymer composites.
  • Advanced research on engineering polymers such as high abrasion-resistant rubber, conductive rubber, thermally conductive polymers, and specialized coatings.
