ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. Setting a wastewater treatment model for natural rubber latex processing combines the recovery of energy by anaerobic biotechnology on the Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB)

A wastewater treatment model of natural rubber latex processing combined with energy recovery by EGSB has been installed at Ha Tinh rubber processing factory with the following results:

  • The COD removal efficiency was over 80% with organic loading rate (OLR) of 10 kgCOD/m3.day;
  • Gas conversion coefficient (ratio between the amount of produced gas and the amount of converted COD) was about 0,3 L/g COD , the biogas would be used to dry the productions;
  • The model is able to develop and apply in wastewater treatment of natural rubber processing factories in Vietnam.

Figure 1. Installed EGSB at Ha Tinh rubber factory

  1. Investigation and determination of the freshwater/saltwater interface in North Central Coastal Plains (from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh) and recommendation of solutions to protect the water environment and respond to climate change.
  • Developing a dataset on water resources (surface water and groundwater in Quaternary sediments) of the North central coastal delta; Developing a set of maps on distribution of the freshwater/saltwater interface (surface water and undergound water) of the North central coastal delta scale 1:100,000; ;
  • A set of scientific and technical solutions to reduce saltwater intrusion, exploit and use sustainably and respond to climate change for water resources in the North central coastal delta.
  1. Research on technology to recover underground freshwater from the aeration zone by condensing solution for domestic use in water –scarce areas in Ninh Thuan province.
  • Designed and tested the model and built the technological process to recover underground freshwater from the aeration zone by condensing solution.
  • The clean water collection system in the aeration zone can achieve a flow of 5-9.5 L/day for households. The condensed water was complied witth QCVN 09:2012/BTNMT for underground water, suitable for supply water for cooking and daily life.

The Dionex Integrion HPIC system (Dionex Intergrion)

Origin: USA

With the capability to analyze a wide variety of sample matrices and a broad concentration range of target analytes (from trace levels—ppb, ppm—to major constituents), ion chromatography offers high accuracy and selectivity. In addition, this technique requires minimal use of organic solvents and hazardous chemicals, thereby reducing adverse environmental impacts.

Analysis of cations (Li⁺, Na⁺, NH₄⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺) in water and wastewater samples is performed in accordance with TCVN 6660:2000 and ISO 14911:1998, using ion chromatography equipped with a conductivity detector. A cation-exchange column is employed with methanesulfonic acid as the mobile phase, together with a cation suppressor.

Analysis of anions: F⁻, Cl⁻, NO₂⁻, NO₃⁻, Br⁻, SO₄²⁻, PO₄³⁻.
