MISSION:
  • COMFA does both scientific research and technical service (in lab. and at onsite) in the field of materials properties characterization and failure analysis.

  •     II. Scientific and Technological Research
 COMFA has been doing the following studies:
        -   Materials properties characterization
     -  Atmospheric Corrosion of materials as steels, coppers and  copper alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys, zinc galvanized steel, zincalum galvanized steel and so on.
        -  Corrosion mapping
        -   Stress Cracking Corrosion (SCC)
        -   Corrosion under insulation (CUI)

ACHIEVMENTS

1.     Industrial Technical Service

  •     Examining the properties of metallic materials in the laboratory and at the field: analysis the chemical composition of six metals base (Fe, Cu, Al, Ti, Ni, Co), examine the microstructure of metallic materials (microstructure, grain size, evaluation of content of sulfide inclusions in steel), measurement of metals and oxide coating thickness, mechanical properties of metallic materials (hardness, tensile/bending, impact test). These services help the customer control the quality of materials, processes, and the quality of products.
  •    Condition Assessment of plant components: using the NDT methods at the field like hardness test, analysis of the chemical composition, Replica examination, and other NDT to condition assessment of plant components during operation time. Especially, for components working under high temperature and pressure conditions in thermal power, chemical and petrochemical plants, this service has supported the customer to make plans of maintenance /replacement/prevention, reduce risks and save production costs.
  •    Water quality control for boiler system, consult to avoid scale and corrosion: analyzing the water quality at laboratory and at the field to consult the customer how to water quality control for boiler system to avoid scale and corrosion, reduce risks and save production costs.  
  •    Failure analysis: industrial parts/components are damaged due to many different reasons: design, operating, material defects, aging … Failure analysis is a critical process of determining the root causes of problems aiming to the prevention of reaped failures, enhancement of production safety, and economic efficiency.
  •    Corrosion testing and evaluation of components according to standards: ISO 8407, ISO 14993, ASTM B 117, JIH H 8502…,  includes testing in the field and accelerated testing in the lab. With seventeen testing stations in Vietnam atmospheric including urban, industrial, and marine atmosphere environment, COMFA has been able to support industries in research/develop the new materials used in Vietnam.
  •    Consultancy and training: Give industry the training courses/in-house seminar in relevant scope: Basis and advanced knowledge of materials, materials selection, theory and practice of materials properties testing, theory and practice of failure analysis, corrosion and protection in industry, water quality control to avoid scale and corrosion, specific corrosion in power plants, fertilizer plants and refineries
