From November 4th to 6th, 2021, the 10th International Workshop on Advanced Materials Science and Technology (IWAMSN 2021) was held in Hanoi. The Workshop is co-organized by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, CNRS Institut Néel, and the National Institute of Materials Science of Japan.

The Institute of Materials Science (IMS), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Join and Welding Research Institute (JWRI), Osaka University (Japan), co-organized an online seminar on Joining and Materials Science on March 11, 2021

On June 11, 2018, the Institute of Materials Sciences (IMS) organized a scientific seminar to mark the 25th anniversary of establishing the Institute (11/6/1993 - 11/6/2018).

In December, 2017, the scientific database of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) accepted three Vietnamese scientific journals as meeting the ACI standard, including two journals published by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), including Vietnam Journal of Science and Technology, and Vietnam Journal of Earth Sciences.
