From November 4th to 6th, 2021, the 10th International Workshop on Advanced Materials Science and Technology (IWAMSN 2021) was held in Hanoi. The Workshop is co-organized by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, CNRS Institut Néel, and the National Institute of Materials Science of Japan.

On June 11, 2018, the Institute of Materials Sciences (IMS) organized a scientific seminar to mark the 25th anniversary of establishing the Institute (11/6/1993 - 11/6/2018).

During 2010-2012, the Institute of Materials Science has carried out successfully an international project entitled “Advanced Technical Services for SME in Selected Industrial Sectors of Vietnam” funded by GIZ and TICA Thailand.

In December, 2017, the scientific database of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) accepted three Vietnamese scientific journals as meeting the ACI standard, including two journals published by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), including Vietnam Journal of Science and Technology, and Vietnam Journal of Earth Sciences.

On April 16, 2018, the Institute of Materials Science (IMS) has organized a ceremony to congratulate the new professor and associate professors whom has been recently appointed by the Graduate University of Science and Technology (GUST) - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).
